89 Chestnut Residence Council Elections and Voting Information

It is that time of year again where all Chestnut votes for a new council! If you are interested in being a part of council email cro@89crc.com.

Election Timeline

  • Nominations Due Wednesday March 10th at 11 pm at the front desk.
  • Meeting for all Candidates on March 10th at 11 pm in the Multipurpose room in the basement.
  • Campaigning will take place from March 10th 11:59 pm until March 17th at 11:59 pm.
  • Voting will take place March 20 to March 22, between 5-10 pm.
  • Winners will be announced on March 24 at the 89 Chestnut Residence Council Meeting at 10:00pm, All candidates must be present

Voting Period: March 20-22

Details About the Positions

President
1. Coordinate and oversee all Council activities and facilitate communication between Council members.
2. Schedule Council and Executive meetings, and chair Executive meetings.
3. Oversee fulfillment of office hours, with the assistance of the Communications Director
4. Organize at least one Council retreat per year.
5. Act as a signing authority for Council funds.
6. Provide support and guidance to the Executive and House Representatives.
7. Act as liaison between the Residence Administration and the Council.
8. Chair the Hiring Committee, and oversee the hiring of the Speaker and Secretary.
9. Periodically communicate with individual House Councils regarding the performance of their respective House Representatives.

Finance Director
1. Manage the Council’s financial accounts, and maintain accurate records of all Council
expenditures.
2. Prepare and present to Council the annual Budget at the beginning of the fall term.
3. Provide regular updates on the Council’s finances at Council meetings.
4. Act as a signing authority for Council funds.
5. Make all arrangements for the audit of the Council’s finances to the internal auditor of the University by the end of the school year.
6. Perform the duties of the President in his/her absence.

Social Director
1. Organize residence-wide social events and promote residence spirit.
2. Hold events which provide an outlet for students to explore their artistic talents, including the visual, literary, musical and dramatic arts.
3. Act as a signing authority for Council funds.

Outreach and Culture Director
1. Promote charitable acts and organize charity drives within the Residence.
2. Provide information about student volunteer opportunities.
3. Educate residents about the various holidays and traditions celebrated by their follow
residents, in coordination with the Residence Office.
4. Assist coordination between the Council and the Students’ Administrative Council (SAC), college student governments, faculty student organizations, and the University administration.
5. Act as a liaison between Council and 89 Chestnut recognized student clubs.
6. Act as a liaison between 89 Chestnut recognized student clubs and SAC and University of Toronto recognized student clubs.
7. Develop and manage the “Policy on Club Recognition and Funding (Clubs Handbook)”.
8. Provide assistance to students seeking to establish new clubs, and to clubs seeking
recognition.
9. Act as the liaison between the Council and the University and outside community.

Academic Director
1. Promote academic life within the Residence.
2. Coordinate study groups, host academic sessions, and invite guest speakers to assist the
academic success of residents.

Athletics Director
1. Promote physical activity and fitness within the Residence.
2. Organize and register 89 Chestnut male, female and co-ed sports teams in intramural
competition.
3. Represent 89 Chestnut at the male, female and co-ed intramural sports councils at U of T.
4. Organize Residence sporting events, activities and trips.
5. Manage sports and fitness equipment purchased by the Council.
6. Act as liaisons between 89 Chestnut Fitness Room staff and residents.

Residence Life Director
1. Acting a liaison between Chestnut Staff and residents.
2. Strive to ensure resident needs are met.
3. Inform students about school issues and other residence issues that may occur.
4. To encourage community by running regular events for students of 89 Chestnut and establishing residence life. To increase the variety of options for students at this residence.
5. Working with the Chestnut Residence Office, particularly the Residence Life Coordinator, to help improve the residence and satisfying the needs of the students.

Creative Director
1. Promote Council events throughout the residence through a variety of advertising.
2. Design and oversee the Council website.
3. Oversee Council bulletin boards and other Council properties.
4. Direct the creative designs for Chestnut events such as the Annual Semi Formal.
