Want to be an Entrepreneur?

“Who Wants to be an Entrepreneur” is a competition for business ideas, project or inventions. Whatever your passion art, music, internet, engineering, economics, fashion… your chance to turn it into a thriving career starts now.

The competition will be in two stages (teams of 2 are allowed).

Submit 200 words explanation of your idea by email to 89entrepreneur@gmail.com by March 7, 2010.
Five finalists will be picked to present their idea to a panel of judges including a Don, two students (including an MBA senior student), Dean Jo, and Paul Readings (General Manager of 89 Chestnut) on March 15th.

Prizes

1st prize: $150 + Support in acquiring funding from & launching business from Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF)
2nd prize: $50
Green Team special prize: for project with best environmental theme

The following events are being organized by 89 Chestnut Residence Council to raise funds for Haiti disaster relief and re-development. Three non-profit organizations working in Haiti will benefit from your contributions and participation in these exciting events!

Virtual Stock Market Competition 2010

How would you like to invest 1 Million (fake) Dollars into a REAL stock market? You can do that for FREE in the “First Annual 89 Chestnut Virtual Stock Market Competition“.

Each contestant will be “given” 1 Million (fake) Dollars to participate in the New York Stock Exchange. The real market fluctuations will determine how much money you earn or lose. Bi-weekly rankings of the top players (based on their earnings) will be posted around the residence and at the end of the competition $100, $50 and $25( REAL dollars this time) gift cards will be awarded to the top three players.

Game Show Sign-Up

Hello Chestnuters, are you considering participating in this show? whether it is as a contestant or helping backstage you’re helping us put an extra spice of humor into Chestnut life this year. This game show will definitely be tons of fun and if you participate you’re guaranteed to have a blast.

Where: Urban
When: Thursday, 14th of January 8-10pm
(But we want the team ready by mid-December)

So here are the people we ideally need:

10 contestants (approximately): people who are fine with seeming ridicule within a reasonable limit, as long as you don’t pee yourself when in front of an audience
2 Backstage people: Who tell when who has to go on stage
4 people for set up and cleaning
3 Actors: will interact with contestants on stage in various costume outfits, gonna be really funny
5 Artists (painter or any graphic art) to make the background picture: We’ll paint a huge cardboard surface with eccentric colours that we’ll use as a wall
1 to 2 people for sound and video: You will have to coordinate jingles and background videos, it’s a tough task but can be really fun!

The 89 Chestnut Residence Council had its first Meeting on September 16th as newly elected Floor Presidents, Council Members and the residence community came together for an introduction.
